Day Two of the ILCA Midwinters East 2025 in St. Petersburg, Florida, saw challenging conditions with temperatures in the mid-60s and 9 mph winds. Bermudian sailors Sebastian Kempe, Olympian Adriana Penruddocke, and Nicole Stovell faced the conditions head-on as they continued their quest for top honors.
Kempe maintained his impressive form in the ILCA 7 Fleet, further solidifying his lead. He finished day two in first place overall with just 7 net points after six races. His consistency was remarkable, winning the first race of the day (and fourth of the series) followed by a third-place finish in race five. He closed out the day with a strong second place in the final race. Kempe now holds a five-point lead over second-placed Hamilton Barclay and an eleven-point advantage over Guthrie Braun in third.
Olympian Penruddocke, competing in the ILCA 6 Radial Division, climbed one position to 26th place with 51 net points after six races. She started the day strongly with a fourth-place finish, her best result of the regatta so far. However, a 13th and a 17th in the subsequent races saw her lose some ground. Penruddocke still faces a 46-point deficit to the leader, Jake Homberger, but with several races remaining, she has opportunities to make up ground.
Stovell, also competing in the ILCA 6 Radial Division, faced a setback on day two. She finished 73rd with 108 net points. While she opened with a 16th place finish, a disqualification under rule 30.4 (Black Flagged) in the second race significantly impacted her score. She recovered somewhat with a 21st in the final race of the day. Stovell will be aiming to bounce back strongly in the remaining races.
The competition continues, and the Bermudian sailors will be looking to make the most of the remaining days to achieve their goals at this crucial Junior Pan Am qualifier.
