Trinidad & Tobago, seasoned veterans of the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Qualifiers, are making their 10th appearance in the tournament, having qualified for the Final Round in every edition. Their best showing came in 2014 when they achieved a fourth-place finish. Bermuda, participating in their seventh qualifiers, are aiming for their third Final Round qualification, having previously achieved this feat in 2020 and 2022. Their best result in the competition has been reaching the Round of 16 on two occasions.
Despite a resilient first-half performance from Bermuda, where they held the hosts scoreless, Trinidad & Tobago broke the deadlock in the 66th minute. Orielle Martin unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that found the back of the net. Martin then doubled the lead in the 78th minute with a free-kick that caught Bermuda goalkeeper Taya Rodriques off guard. In stoppage time, Trinidad & Tobago were awarded a penalty, which Martin confidently converted to complete her hat-trick and seal a 3-0 victory for the hosts.
Bermuda will be looking to bounce back from this opening defeat when they face Canada in Group E on Sunday.
