The Western Mustangs Women's Squash team claimed the OUA Championship Gold Medal in front of a roaring crowd, showcasing their impressive skill and determination. This victory marks their first gold medal since 2013.
Featuring standout players Hailey Moss and Gabrielle Turchiaro, Western navigated a challenging tournament schedule to reach the top of the podium.
Their opening match saw a narrow 4-3 victory over Waterloo. Turchiaro fell 3-1 to Sarah Casey (11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 11-4) in a 28-minute match, while Moss secured a swift 3-0 win over Rodaina Aboelela (11-4, 11-1, 11-3) in just 13 minutes.
Western then dominated Guelph University with a 7-0 sweep. Turchiaro defeated Emma Robertson 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-2) in a 14-minute match, and Moss mirrored her teammate's performance with a 3-0 win over Monika Begovic (11-1, 11-2, 11-2), also in 14 minutes.
Against Brock University, Western secured a 6-1 victory. Turchiaro needed only six minutes to defeat Evelyn Anzik 3-0 (11-1, 11-4, 11-1), while Moss continued her unbeaten streak with a 3-0 win over Allison MacPhail (11-5, 11-2, 11-6) in 23 minutes.
Western faced a tough challenge against Queens University but emerged with a 5-2 win. Turchiaro battled for 54 minutes to overcome Maya Lakhani 3-1 (11-9, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8), while Moss continued her winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Gabriella Menezes (7-11, 11-2, 11-4, 11-7) in 23 minutes.
The final match against the University of Toronto was a nail-biting affair, with Western edging out a 4-3 win. Turchiaro fell 3-0 to Ainsley Rawlins (11-7, 11-1, 11-3) in 16 minutes, but Moss remained undefeated throughout the tournament, securing the crucial point with a 3-1 victory over Madeline Khan (11-9, 13-11, 9-11, 11-4) in 28 minutes.
