Thomas and Gabriella Cechini played key roles in Mercersburg Academy's dominant performances at the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) Swimming Championship, held at the Lawrenceville School. Mercersburg Academy's Boys' team secured their Division title with 464 points, while the Girls' team also claimed victory with an impressive 520 points.
Gabriella Cechini, fresh off a successful cross-country season, showcased her versatility in the pool. She was part of the Mercersburg Academy Women's 200 Yards Medley Relay team that finished sixth with a time of 2:00.08. Individually, Gabriella finished ninth in the Women's 200 Yard Individual Medley (2:18.78) and fourth in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle (5:24.31). She also contributed to the Mercersburg Academy Women's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team, which finished sixth in 3:55.72.
Thomas Cechini also made a significant impact on the boys' side. He secured second place in the Boy's 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:40.33 and clinched victory in the Boy's 500 Yard Freestyle (4:37.63). Thomas was a member of the Mercersburg Academy Boy's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team, which finished second in 1:27.14, and he anchored the winning Boy's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team, which clocked a time of 3:05.56.
The combined efforts of the Cechini siblings contributed significantly to Mercersburg Academy's impressive double victory at the MAPL Swimming Championship.
