Nayan Grant, the latest Bermudian footballer to join the UK ranks, has made his debut for Gillingham FC's Academy sides, but unfortunately suffered an early injury setback.
Grant, who recently signed with the League Two club’s Academy, is a product of the Bermuda National Academy and has represented the island at both Under-15 and Under-17 levels. He honed his skills with the Warwick Archers program, progressing through the youth ranks to play for Robin Hood FC's senior team before moving to England to further his footballing education.
The young Bermudian made his first appearance for Gillingham's Under-18s in a 3-3 draw against Luton Town on January 25th. He then featured for the Under-17s in their Floodlit Cup clash against Huddersfield Town, but unfortunately was forced off the pitch with an injury in the 18th minute.
Despite Grant's early exit, Gillingham went on to secure a resounding 5-0 victory, booking their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
While the extent of Grant's injury is yet to be confirmed, this setback is undoubtedly a disappointment for the promising youngster. However, his early involvement with Gillingham's academy sides demonstrates the club's faith in his potential.
Grant will be hoping to make a swift recovery and return to action soon, aiming to impress the Gillingham coaches and continue his development in the English football system.
