Airbnb has teamed up with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to once again provide Athlete Travel Grants in support of athletes hoping to qualify for the next Olympic or Paralympic Games.
The Airbnb Athlete Travel Grant 2025 offers athletes a $2000 grant to book Airbnb stays around the world "to support competition or training-related trips with the aim of helping ease the financial strain of travel", as per the official IPC release.
As an official IOC and IPC partner, Airbnb will be providing 1000 grants to support athlete accommodation needs in 2025 with priority given to those training for the Milano-Cortina Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games next year.
Both summer and winter sports athletes can, however, apply for the Airbnb Athlete Travel Grants and applications are now open through 13 February. Athlete Competition Partners are also eligible to receive the award as part of the application of the athlete they support.
This is the fifth time that Airbnb has teamed up with the IPC and IOC to offer the grants having first launched the $8 million scheme in 2021 supporting 500 athletes a year. Airbnb then doubled the number of grants in 2023.
In the build-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Airbnb launched the Airbnb500 Celebratory Travel Grant which provided over 9000 participating Olympians and Paralympians from all over the world with $500 "for relaxing and recuperating, exploring a new destination, or going after your next goal" as a way of honoring "incredible efforts and accomplishments".
"Surfing in remote paradises, training in nature's raw beauty, and discovering the world through Airbnb has been my way of breaking boundaries, both as an athlete and as a person," said former recipient of the grant Italian Paralympic Jacopo Luchini. "The AATG helped me make these dreams a reality, overcoming financial and logistical challenges, and allowing me to truly connect with the places, the sport, and the people who make it all possible."
