Despite several postponements due to waterlogged pitches across the UK, a number of Bermudian footballers braved the elements on New Year's Day, with mixed results in their respective matches.
Championship:
Nahki Wells: Wells played a key role in Bristol City's 2-2 draw with Plymouth Argyle at Home Park. He provided the assist for Anis Mehmeti's opening goal and almost doubled the lead early in the second half, but his volley was saved. Plymouth snatched a late equaliser in added time to deny Bristol City all three points.
Non-League:
Keziah Martin: Martin and his Rushall Olympic teammates secured a valuable 1-0 victory over Kidderminster Harriers. Harry Twite: Twite's Loughborough Student FC battled to a 1-1 draw with AFC Rushden & Diamonds. Milan Butterfield: Butterfield's Basford United suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to Ilkeston Town FC. Razhir Smith-Jones, Reece Jones Jr., and Coleridge Fubler: The Bermudian trio and their Binfield FC teammates fell to a 1-0 loss against Ascot United FC. Kane Crichlow: Crichlow's Chelmsford City secured a 1-0 win over Aveley Football Club. Reggie Lambe: Lambe's Needham Market FC were defeated 2-1 by Peterborough Sports at the Ecologic Stadium.
While some Bermudian players enjoyed victories and strong performances, others faced setbacks on New Year's Day. As the season progresses, it will be interesting to follow their journeys and see how they contribute to their respective clubs.
