Young Bermudian referee Sar Smith has been invited to participate in the Caribbean Football Union's (CFU) 2025 Next Generation Referee Course, a prestigious development programme taking place in Barbados.
The course, designed to nurture and train promising officials from across the region, offers a pathway towards international recognition and FIFA listing. Smith, who received his invitation through the Bermuda Football Association (BFA), becomes the third Bermudian referee to be selected for this opportunity.
BFA President Mark Wade presented Smith with a Polar watch to assist in his fitness preparations for the intensive course.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for Sar to develop his skills and potentially progress to the highest level of officiating," said Wade. "The BFA is committed to supporting our referees and providing them with the resources they need to succeed on the international stage."
The CFU Next Generation Referee Course will focus on both theoretical and practical aspects of officiating, including match analysis, fitness training, and the latest interpretations of the laws of the game.
Smith's selection underscores the growing strength of refereeing in Bermuda and highlights the BFA's dedication to developing homegrown talent.
