Iason Panagopoulos from Greece was crowned the 2024 Optimist World Champion, after an intense and thrilling competition. On the final day, 255 young sailors from 51 countries took to the waters, including a talented contingent from Bermuda, facing challenging winds of 10-12 knots from the Southeast.
Leading the Bermudian fleet was Nina Gotfredsen, who delivered a commendable performance, finishing 17th in the Silver Fleet, she was the 4th girl in her fleet and 92nd overall with 295 net points. Miguel Powers also showed determination, securing 122nd place with 388 net points.
Evan Davis crossed the finish line in 182nd position, recording 441 net points, while Rory Savage followed closely in 195th with 499 net points. Rounding out the Bermudian efforts was Noah Amaradasa, who finished in 215th place with 620 net points.
The event was a true test of skill and endurance, with all participants showcasing their talent and sportsmanship. Panagopoulos's victory highlights his exceptional sailing prowess and dedication to the sport, earning him the prestigious title of Optimist World Champion.
