Owen Rosorea and Mason Smith are proudly flying the Bermuda flag at the prestigious 2024 Forthlane Partners Canadian Junior Squash Open, held at the Club at White Oaks Resort and Spa and Ridley College's brand-new Jack Aylott Squash Center.
The tournament has attracted top junior talent from across the globe, providing a challenging and exciting environment for these young Bermudian athletes.
Rosorea, competing in the Boys' Under-17 Singles Division, faced a tough opponent in Niam Tejani. Tejani proved too strong on the day, claiming an 11-5, 11-2, 11-4 victory. Despite the loss, Rosorea gained valuable experience competing against a high-level international opponent.
In the Under-12 Boys' Singles Division, Smith put up a valiant fight against Gabriel Chen. The match went back and forth, with Chen taking the first two sets 12-10, 11-5. Smith, however, showed his resilience, bouncing back to win the third set 11-4. Ultimately, Chen regained control and closed out the match with an 11-8 victory in the fourth set.
Competing in the Canadian Junior Squash Open provides Rosorea and Smith with invaluable exposure to high-level competition. Facing opponents from different countries and playing styles will undoubtedly help them develop their skills and elevate their game.
