IslandStats.com
Connecticut College goalkeeper Peter Silvester produced a heroic performance, but it wasn't enough to prevent his side from suffering a heartbreaking defeat in the National Championship game.

After 110 minutes of goalless action against Adrian Trott's 8th-ranked Amherst College, the match went to a dramatic penalty shootout, which Amherst ultimately won 4-3.

The tension was palpable at the Peter Johann Memorial Field as both teams battled for supremacy. Neither side could find a breakthrough in regulation time, with defense's dominating and chances proving scarce. Extra time saw both teams create opportunities, but Silvester and his Amherst counterpart stood firm, ensuring the game remained deadlocked.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, the drama intensified. Both sides converted twice in the first five rounds, with Marco Perugini and Jake Creus scoring for Connecticut College. Silvester was the standout performer, pulling off three crucial saves to keep his team in the contest.

The shootout continued into sudden death, with both teams converting in the sixth round. Max Haberman kept Connecticut College's hopes alive, but their next effort was saved. Amherst then stepped up and calmly slotted home the winning penalty, sparking wild celebrations amongst their players and fans.

Despite the defeat, Silvester's performance was nothing short of heroic. He made six saves during open play and added three more in the shootout, including two with the game on the line. His efforts earned him plaudits from both coaches and teammates.

For Trott who was an unused substitute and his Amherst College teammates, the victory marks a momentous achievement. They are crowned national champions after a tense and thrilling final, with their resilience and composure in the penalty shootout proving decisive.
