The final day of the 2024 SKUSA SuperNationals in Las Vegas brought a mix of triumph and heartbreak for Bermuda's karting contingent. Scott Barnes, Ryan Rebello, and Brian Bulhoes faced a rollercoaster of emotions as they battled for glory on the challenging Vegas track.
Barnes, competing in the Master Shifter by Freem class, showed his resilience and determination. After a weekend plagued by mechanical issues and bad luck, he stormed to a 12th place finish in the warm-up race, setting the stage for a strong performance in the main event.
The final race was a tense affair, with Barnes battling fiercely against a stacked field of 50 karts. He pushed his machine to the limit, navigating the twists and turns of the track with precision and skill. When the checkered flag fell, Barnes crossed the line in a commendable 14th place.
"Top 15 final in Shifter Masters starting from 23rd!" Barnes exclaimed after the race. "I was wishing for 5 more laps, we had top 10 times, it just took too long to get around a couple drivers. Not the week we were hoping for, but I'll take it with the luck we had. Super stacked 50 kart field was by far the hardest Shifter Masters field at a SKUSA SuperNationals."
Unfortunately, Rebello's SuperNationals campaign ended in disappointment. Despite showing promising pace in the warm-up race, where he finished 23rd, he was unable to finish the main event.
Brian Bulhoes, competing in the KA100 Master by Orsolon Racing Class, also faced a heartbreaking end to his SuperNationals journey. He battled hard in the warm-up race, finishing 34th, but was unable to finish the main event.
Despite the setbacks, the Bermuda Karting contingent showcased their talent and determination on the world stage. Barnes' impressive comeback drive and top-15 finish are a testament to his skill and resilience. Rebello and Bulhoes, though facing disappointment in the final race, will undoubtedly learn from this experience and come back stronger in future competitions.
The SuperNationals is a true test of skill, speed, and mental fortitude. Barnes, Rebello, and Bulhoes represented Bermuda with pride, leaving it all on the track in the pursuit of karting glory.
