Scott Barnes concluded competing in the Cup Karts North American (CKNA) Grand Nationals 8 in New Castle, Indiana.
Barnes said, “Leaving my first Cup Karts North American Grand Nationals race feeling a little disappointed but still happy with the final results.
We fought hard all weekend to change our shifter kart driving style and get the kart to where it needed to be.
I got faster all weekend, finished 14/21/16th in a 50 kart field in Masters heat races.
I started the finals in 15th and raced to a 9th place finish. We definitely had something to fight for a podium in the final but guys didn’t want to line up and push.
We ran the 2nd fastest lap time in the finals, faster than the top 5 podium, showing we had the speed to run up front and be a front runner, just took a bit too long to get up to the fast times.
This was the biggest 4 stroke race in the country, the best of 206 drivers from around the world, so pretty cool to know we can run with the top guys after a year of shifter kart racing.
I feel like a little more seat time on this chassis before this race and we would have easily run in the top 10 all weekend!
We got there, it was just a bit too late in the weekend.”
