Harrington Sound was the scene where waters matched the skies, as the 2024 Round the Sound Swim unfolded, a celebration of endurance, precision, and the rhythmic pull of tides. Under near-perfect conditions, swimmers carved through liquid pathways, their strokes a testament to human tenacity.
Nina Coetzer, her cap adorned with determination, charted a course across the 10K distance bowed before her as she sliced through the water. The clock, impartial yet reverent, halted at 2:27.35 to be crowned the champion.
Brad Coetzer, the first male to conquer the same distance, surged, to claim a bronze medal, in a time of 2:33.34.
Olympian Tyler Smith, a comet of speed, claimed the 6K title. His strokes, a metronome of precision, carried him to victory in 1:26.6. Meanwhile, Katie Dwyer, eighth overall, claimed the Women’s title clocking 1:56.14.
At the 4K distance Katherine Wheddon touched the shore, her time of 1:02.55. Dominic Wright, a shadow in pursuit, claimed the male mantle in 1:03.10.
Jackson Langley owned the 2K title, his time of 28.40. Isla Cooze, close on his heels, took the female crown in 29.07.
The shortest distance of —0.8K sprint saw a burst of adrenaline, a ribbon of salt spray, Tony Schumacher clocked 13.31 seconds. Kiera Dunley-Owen, who finished sixth overall, claimed the female title in 15.25.
