Peter Silvester and his Connecticut College Men's Soccer teammates worked hard against #11 Tufts, earning a 0 - 0 draw at Bello Field. With the tie, Connecticut College moves to 2-1-2 on the year and 0-1-2 in NESCAC play.
Both sides came out ready for the conference matchup, as each team recorded a shot on goal in the opening five minutes. Tufts notched the first effort of the contest, forcing a strong save from Silvester. Connecticut College answered with Gavin Mpiana putting a shot on target, but his effort was turned aside.
Both sides generated opportunities throughout the half, but Connecticut College came the closest to opening the scoring. Matt Scoffone and Elliot Spatz both put shots on target, but both were turned aside as the game was scoreless at the break.
Tufts opened the second half on the front foot recording two shots in the opening four minutes. The first effort went off target, before Silvester turned away Bijan Akhtarzandi-Das's shot. Just a few minutes later, Connecticut College had back-to-back chances to open the scoring, but both Rye Jaran and Jack Kelesoglu had an effort blocked.
Between the 61st and 74th minutes, Connecticut College again had some good looks at goal, however Scoffone and Christian Perugini had shots stopped by Nikola Antic. Tufts upped the pressure in the final 15 minutes, but Silvester and the Connecticut College defense held the Jumbos at bay. In the final ninety seconds, a bouncing ball made its way to Matt Quiros-Newton who fired on net, but was stopped by Antic, as the game ended 0-0.
Tufts held a slim 14-12 edge on shots, while Connecticut College had a 6-3 advantage on shots on target and a 4-0 edge on corner kicks.
Silvester continued his strong play between the sticks, recording three saves. Five Connecticut College players recorded at least one shot on target as Scoffone notched two, while Mpiana, Perugini, Quiros-Newton, and Spatz all tallied one.
