Arnezha Astwood and his University of Omaha Men’s Soccer teammates returned home to Caniglia Field and held off a late rally by Houston Christian to secure a 2 - 2 tie in Men's soccer Monday night.
Omaha dominated much of the match, outshooting Houston Christian 10-2 in the opening half and 15-8 for the game. Omaha built a 2-0 lead on Wawa Palga's first goal of the season in the 20th minute. Freshman Bradley Takamo won the ball in midfield, pushed it across to captain Theo Klein who then fed it neatly to Palga. It was Takamo's first career point as a Omaha player.
Omaha's success on penalty kicks in recent seasons continued later in the half, with Mathis Pilon St-Louis drilling home his second goal of the season in the 35th minute. It was the second successful spot kick of his career, and Omaha's third in as many tries as a team this year.
Houston Christian didn't get their third shot of the match until the 59th minute when Ricardo Garcia scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Kaone Kolagano and Freddy Ferguson. They leveled the score on a penalty kick by D'Allesandro Herrera, in the 85th minute.
