Sebastian Kempe, one of the top sailing Royal Hospital School scholars, has secured his place to study Yacht Design and Production at Solent University in Southampton.
This is a huge accomplishment considering he has had to balance his academic studies alongside his global sailing commitments. Kempe became the Youth Sailing World Champion in the ILCA 6 class in 2021 and was named 'Junior Male Athlete of the Year' by the Bermuda Government in their National Sports Awards 2022 and 2023. He was also shortlisted as a 'Rising Star' in the Independent School Parent Awards 2022.
Kempe joined RHS in Year 10 from Bermuda as a full-time boarder, choosing the school from many around the world as a place where he could balance his passion for sailing alongside his academics. He has taken full advantage of the RYA Sailing Academy and has been a fabulous role model for younger pupils, who can’t help but notice his commitment and dedication to achieve his sailing dreams, and to represent his country at the next Olympics Games.
Kempe said, “I am really excited about what the future holds for me both at university and on the water. I am very proud to be recognized for all my sailing achievements to date and am grateful to my family, teachers and sailing coaches for all the support they have given me over the years.”
Kempe’s parents add; “As a family, we have really enjoyed our experience with RHS and could not recommend it enough to any prospective students. We will miss it!”
