Bermuda won five more medals on the second day of the 2024 Carifta Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships.
On the second and final day of competition, the Bermuda triathlon team successfully competed in the aquathlon and Mixed Team Relay bringing home five more medals. Naomi MacGuinness won her second individual gold medal of the Championships and Bermuda’s relay teams took silver and bronze in the Mixed Team Relay.
The medal run started in the Boys 13-15 Aquathlon with Rory Shepherd executing his race plan and delivering an impressive performance in his first year in the category. Following an excellent run he clinched the silver medal.
Shortly thereafter, it was the Girl's time to shine in the 11-12 Aquathlon with Naomi MacGuinness bridging a significant gap by sprinting through the field to victory. Following on behind, Collette Durkin took the silver, after a closely fought battle with a rival from Barbados.
The weekend ended with the closely contested triathlon Mixed-Team Relay. Bermuda entered four teams and ultimately clinched the Silver and Bronze medals. The Barbados home nation ultimately took gold. The silver medal-winning team comprised Ollie Hayward, Zara Bule, Jackson Langley, and Ella Shepherd with Jamie Bedford, Fenella Wightman, Sanchez Smith and Naomi Smith securing bronze.
Neil de ste Croix, Junior National Coach praised the team, “The commitment and quality of our athletes were on full display in Barbados. Their performances were exceptional, and I couldn’t be more pleased with how they executed their races. Taking 13 medals overall is nothing short of remarkable.”
The Bermuda team ended the weekend in second place with Barbados as the overall champions.
