In a moment that celebrates not only athletic excellence but also national pride, the Bermuda Olympic Association is thrilled to announce that Olympic rower Dara Alizadeh will serve as the flag bearer for Team Bermuda at the Closing Ceremony for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. This prestigious honor is demonstrative of Dara’s leadership during the Games, outstanding efforts during his athletic events, and his relentless spirit that embodies the essence of our island nation.
Alizadeh is set to lead Bermuda’s delegation during the closing ceremony on August 11, 2024, amidst the splendor and history of Paris. Following the announcement Alizadeh shared, “I’m incredibly honored to have the chance to close out these Games as flag bearer for Bermuda. This has been an amazing experience with an equally amazing Team Bermuda and to close out this journey carrying the Bermuda flag is truly a dream come true.”
Chef de Mission and Olympian, Katura Horton-Perinchief stated, “It was my distinct privilege to carry the Bermuda flag into the Olympic Stadium for the closing ceremony of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 - almost two decades ago and I cannot think of anything more honorable than to be able to extend the opportunity to two-time Olympic rower, Dara Alizadeh. His grit and determination during this very challenging competition demonstrated, wholly, that although Bermuda is small, we can produce some of the world’s greatest athletes across a variety of sports. Alizadeh’s leadership, wit, humor and experience has contributed immeasurably to the spirit of Team Bermuda on the ground and, for that, we are entirely grateful.”
The BOA encourages the entire island to celebrate the Team Bermuda athletes as they prepare for the finale of the Paris Olympics. The closing ceremony for the 33rd Olympic Games entitled “Records” takes place at the iconic Stade De France and is tipped to feature over a hundred performers, acrobats, dancers, and circus artists, will be broadcast on August 11th, exclusively on NBC and Peacock starting at 4pm local time.
