14-year-old motorcycle racer, Aeziah Divine, is finalizing preparations for his 2024 season highlight: competing in the R&G British Talent Cup as a support class in the Monster Energy British Grand Prix MotoGP round at Silverstone GP Circuit this weekend between 2 - 4th August. MotoGP celebrates 75 years this year and youth riders at Silverstone will share the paddock and experiences with current and former MotoGP stars.
Divine will be competing in his fourth round of the season for the SENCAT Talent Team / Mortimer Racing - Victoria House Academy once again. He raced with the team at Brands Hatch GP last weekend in Kent, England, as a guest rider, gaining valuable experience on the iconic British circuit and with a team in contention of winning the championship, with front-runner Lucas Brown.
"I loved the Brands Hatch GP circuit," said Divine. "The team bike felt amazing and the track was fast and technical.
“It was a tough weekend. I had to learn a lot over a limited amount of track time. I also had to get used to the SENCAT Moto3 which is set up slightly differently from my previous Microlise Cresswell Racing team bike.
“We knew this year would be a big learning year for me by stepping up to BTC but it's been a great experience. I have to learn all the circuits over the race weekends while continuing to master the Honda NSF250R Moto3.
“The other riders in this class are quick and experienced on the bikes and the circuits, so every session I’m on track with them, I learn a lot from them.
“I plan to race in the Moto3 class in the UK and eventually Spain over the next 4-5 years so I'm still early into this new stage of my racing career."
Divine competed in the first two rounds of the R&G British Talent Cup under the team Microlise Cresswell Racing, however, the team was unable to continue the season after the sudden passing of team principal, John Cresswell, after the second round. Divine hopes to secure a few more entries into the class this season as a possible replacement rider for teams that may need someone to fill in for them.
So far this season, Divine has competed at Circuito de Navarra, Donington Park GP, Brands Hatch GP and will tick off Silverstone GP in a few days. All circuits are new to the young rider and, as one of few rookies in the class this season, he is working hard to learn as many of the national circuits as possible this year with the aim to make a bigger impact in the class next season.
Divine is a recent recipient of the Department of Sport & Recreation’s 2024 National Junior Athlete Sponsorship and Elite Athlete Sponsorship awards to support his season in the R&G British Talent Cup. He is grateful for these sports awards, his sponsors and individual supporters as it is challenging to compete at this stage, financially and skill-wise.
