Camerin Pickering missed out on a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as his run came to an end in the Continental Qualifiers of the Americas in Colombia.
Pickering was defeated 6-4, by Oscar Ticas from El Salvador, Pickering was taking on Ticas in the Recurve Quarter-Finals, ironically Ticas booked a place to Rio 2016 at the Continental Qualifier in Medellin eight years ago, but then failed a doping test and received a one-year ban, missing the Games.
Pickering would record a fifth-place finish.
Pickering told www.islandstats.com, “Qualifying went well. I was very pleased with my result, where I shot a 641/720. I had an extremely good performance in my first two elimination matches leading to the Quarter-Finals, and so I felt very confident going into the Quarter-Final.
During my match, I focused on my process and controlling the nerves. While I was unable to secure an Individual Position for the Olympics I was still pleased with my performance and the progress that I have made in the sport.
At the moment our team still has a chance to secure a team spot for the Paris Olympics later on this week. I’ll have another opportunity in June for a shot at an Individual Position for the Olympics.”
