In the Men’s team event, Bermuda went down 3 - 2 to Barbados in their opening match.
Micah Franklin defeated Khamal Cumberbatch 11-8, 13-11, 14-12, Taylor Carrick picked up the win over Shawn Simpson in a walkover. Anaya Smith went down 11-4, 12-10, 11-1 to Darien Benn, while Anthony Fellowes went down 11-2, 11-8, 11-4 to Alex Stewart, and Matthew Elliott went down 11-3, 7-11, 11-7 to Stewart St John.
In their second match, Bermuda pulled off a great upset defeating 3rd seed Jamaica 3 - 2, Franklin defeated Julian Morrison 10-12, 11-6, 11-2, Carrick defeated Tahjia Lumley 9-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, Smith defeated Bruce Burrowes 13-11, 11-13, 11-3, 12-10, while Fellowes went down to Dane Schwier 11-4, 11-6, 11-3, and Armin De Weerdt went down to Stephan Morrison 11-6, 11-6, 11-3.
Bermuda now play top seeds Guyana tomorrow evening in the Semi-Finals.
Franklin said, “I’m very proud of the team performance, the boys left everything out there. You could tell that this one meant a lot to us!”
Men’s Veteran’s Doubles players Peter Drury and James Dodgson began competing, the pair fell 2 – 0 to Jamaica, Dodgson went down 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 6-11, 13-11 to Mario O'Connor, while Drury went down 11-4, 11-5, 11-5 to Bruce Levy. In the match against the Cayman Islands Bermuda fell 2 – 1, Dodgson went down 11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6 to Myron Blair, before Drury defeated Keith Huggins 11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-5, before Nick Buckley won the third game in a walkover. The Bermuda pair would fall 2 – 0 to Barbados, Dodgson went down to Don Benn 11-4, 11-3, 13-11, and Drury went down 11-9, 11-6, 11-2 to Mark Gilkes.
