Wells Helps Bristol City Win Pre-Season Match
Nahki Wells and his Bristol City teammates kickstarted their pre-season fixtures with a victory as they hit six past Torquay United at the Robins High Performance Centre.

The first half was a slow start by City's standards as the Gulls took a surprise early lead.

A long ball from Torquay 'keeper Mark Halstead was brought down by Lewis Collins, who managed to pick out Bradley Ash to divert past Harvey Wiles-Richards and put the South Coast side in front.

City responded soon after though, through Jason Knight. City's latest summer addition raced through on goal and saw his ball into the danger area bundled into the net by a Torquay United defender.

However, it would be Gary Johnson's side that would be next to find the net. A mix-up at the back by City afforded Aaron Jarvis the opportunity to grab a second for the Gulls midway through the first half.

Nigel Pearson's side pushed for a second equalizer and went close twice through Wells. First, he was denied by a strong stop from Halstead, before a timely block at the back prevented the Bermudian from bagging a tap-in.

City would have a second before the break as Knight's work rate was rewarded by reclaiming possession in the Torquay box, where Wells was on hand to pick out the unmarked Bell to score and bring City level at the half-time whistle.

The second half brought a fresh 11 players onto the pitch and with it a new energy. The first five minutes brought with it warning signs for the Gulls.

Harry Cornick was inches away from City's third just three minutes into the half, before Anis Mehmeti rattled the crossbar with a free-kick from 25 yards out.

However, it didn't take too long for the Albanian international to find the back of the net, and in some style. Cornick and Andi Weimann combined on the right wing, which allowed the latter to pick out Mehmeti in the box as he lashed home to put City ahead.

No less than two minutes later, Mehmeti had his second. This time Cornick was the provider as he fizzed a ball across the box for Mehmeti to fire low past the 'keeper for his second.

As the second half progressed the game became more open, suiting City's rapid frontline. For the fifth, Mehmeti turned provider for Cornick who slid home to open up a three goal advantage with ten minutes to play.

However, Cornick didn't stop there as he bagged a brace of his own. Alex Scott played a perfectly weighted ball down the line for Tommy Conway and with one touch he picked out the onrushing Cornick to slide the ball into the bottom corner and wrap up the afternoon's scoring.
