The 2021 Around the Island Powerboat Race is set to take place this Sunday, August 8th. Adding to the day will be the revival of the Junior Power Boat races, as well as the Jet Ski Races.
The BPBA Junior Race will see the competitor’s race inshore using the Ferry Reach, and Grotto Bay area, while the Jet Skis will compete on part of the Power Boat Course.
The Jet Ski race route will see a start inside Ferry Reach, they will travel out of the Pylons, heading west to Gibbets mark just off Flatt’s, they will then travel to Hogfish Beacon, before making their way to the Two Rock Passage.
They will then head around Whites Island, along Harbor Road pass Hinson Island, pass Darrell’s Island, around Five Star Island, and head toward Dockyard, they will round a marker just off Dockyard and head back to Ferry Reach.
Power Boat Racing will start inside Ferry Reach, they will travel out of the Pylons, heading west to Gibbets mark just off Flatt’s, they will then travel to Hogfish Beacon, before making their way to the Two Rock Passage.
They will then head around Whites Island, along Harbor Road pass Hinson Island, pass Darrell’s Island, around Five Star Island, and head toward Dockyard, they will make their way around Commissioner’s Point, and then Daniels Head, they travel down and around the Southshore, around Jumping Rock, before making their way around St. Davids Head, and around St. Georges Point and back into Ferry Reach.
Swimmers and scuba/freedivers, in particular, should avoid the racecourse, with any divers ensuring that their positions are marked with a surface marker buoy.
