Phillips Begins Vilas Academy Tournament

Daniel Phillips began competing in the VI GUILLERMO VILAS TENNIS ACADEMY TROPHY Junior Tennis Tournament.

Phillips playing in the Boys Singles 14 Qualifier, took on his doubles partner Uwe Diehl from Belgium and defeated him in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Playing in a Second Qualifier Phillips took on the 12th seed Samat Gabdullin from Russia.

The pair fought for well over two hours with the Russian victorious in a three set thriller.

Gabdullin won the first set 7-5, but Phillips drew the match level at 1 – 1 when he won the second set 7-6.

The third and final set saw Gabdullin win 6-4 to advance.

Following the match Phillips was granted a spot in the main draw with the lucky loser draw.
