Shaun’s career started at Manchester United on May 8th 1989 until October 25th 1989, he then moved to Rotherham in October 1989. Goater started 169 league games and scored 70 goals, he played 12 FA Cup games and scored 7 goals, and played 13 League Cup games scoring 4 times. Goater played one game for Notts County in November 1993 where he went on loan. Goater moved to Bristol City August 17th 1996 he started 69 League games, scoring 43 times.
Goater then made a 400,000 pound move to Manchester City, Goater started 167 League games scoring 85 goals in League play, 9 FA Cup goals, and 9 League Cup goals.
Goater moved to Reading in 2003 for a fee of 500,000 pounds, Goater started 32 League games, and scored 12 goals, Goater then started 4 times for Coventry before he moved to Southend United, Goater played 28 games scoring 11 times.
Shaun finished his playing career with over 200 League goals.
