IslandStats.com
The Pro-Day website is reporting that Jamere Griffin, a former native of Bermuda, who has resided in Gulfport, Mississippi for the past seven years edged out Nic Anderson of Pine Bluff in the final round of competition to capture the 2011 PRO-DAY "Powerade" Home Run Derby Championship here recently, announced Jeff Gross, CEO/President of PRO-DAY Baseball.

The 6 foot 220lbs outfielder was tied with Anderson with 12 homers each before the two went into a match-play finals, where Griffin hit his winning homer way over the left centerfield fence to secure the win.

Speaking with Griffin’s father James Griffin who was at the All-American Showcase in Orange Beach said, “This weekend really gave him a lot of confidence as he begins his high school season and to know that his goals of playing baseball at the collegiate level are reachable with continue hard work on the field and in the classroom.”

Twenty-three players competed in the home run derby competition, which was narrowed to four: Griffin, Anderson, Jordan Seifert of Houston and John Zeigler of Benton before the final two.

PRO-DAY Baseball conducts showcases in over 14-states along with three national showcases during the year for high school players in grades 9-12. During these showcases, players are evaluated by college coaches and professional scouts with their evaluations going off to colleges of their choice. Players also receive instruction in hitting and pitching along with college prep talks while participating in games at many of these events.
