Hogges & Ironbound in action

The new year will bring a new identity and expanded organization for the Premier Development League’s Jersey Express, which will add a Super-20 franchise to its organization.

Known previously as the Ironbound Express, the PDL side which finished second in the PDL’s Mid-Atlantic Division in 2010 is aiming to expand its fan-base throughout Monmouth, Union, Essex and Hudson counties in New Jersey with its new name.

Ironbound Express hammered the Bermuda Hogges 5 - 0 back on June 10th in New Jersey, and then went down 1 - 0 to them on June 25th and June 27th at the BAA Field.

“Ironbound is a four mile long working-class part of Newark, which is a very small fraction of the territorial rights we have in New Jersey,” Jersey Express assistant general manager Eric Maimon said in the club statement. “We feel the name Jersey Express better represents the organization’s current market and future endeavors.”

The club plans to strengthen its current PDL team, as well as expand the organization’s operations. The organization’s Super-20 men’s team will serve as a reserve team for the PDL franchise and also offer a bridge to that team for players that have come through the organization’s youth academy, which will have seven teams compete in the USL Super Y-League next summer.
