Bermuda Gaelic Football Club Elect Committee

IslandStats.com
Following their weekend Gaelic Football Club Ladies and Men’s matches on the North Field at National Sports Center, the group have held elections for the official club.

Bermuda Gaelic Football Club Elected Committee

Chairman- Ronan Quinn
Vice-Chairman- Colin Ryan
Secretary- Fergus McAleavey
Treasurer- Seamus Fearon
PRO- Jerry Murphy

Chairman Quinn told www.islandstats.com, “My understanding is that there used to be an annual game for a couple of years until about two or three years ago. Colin and I knew each other through mutual friends and got chatting about getting it started again.

We knew colleagues in the Cayman Islands that said they were allowed to compete in the North American Championship and we thought that this was something we should aim for as the Bermuda club.

We began discussions about setting up so we could compete in this competition in December 2019 and we were told by the North American officials that we would have to be recognized by the GAA as an official club before we could start competing.

We made initial contact with the GAA for the official recognition in January and the establishment of the club was finalized in May 2020.

Over the next year, we will look to continue to grow the men’s and women’s teams by having training sessions and periodic challenge games in order to grow players' skills and interest in the sport.

We are also aiming to compete in the North American Championship whenever the competition resumes.

The North American Championship involves all of the winners of each North American Division of which there are currently Ten Divisions.

Although not yet been finalized, my understanding is that we will be drawn in the Southeast Division against the likes of Atlanta, Charleston, and the Cayman Islands.”
