Whaley Staying Ahead of the Game

IslandStats.com
After a long and, at times, difficult recruiting process, running back Devwah Whaley is already at Arkansas and ahead of the game as he started taking Summer Classes.

“I’m a little nervous, but altogether happy that I’m done with high school and am getting ready to start a new journey,” Whaley said during a evening interview with SEC Country in his living room.

Whaley was among the most ballyhooed recruits in the national class of 2016. A four-star prospect from Beaumont’s Central Medical Magnet High School, he held offers from the likes of Alabama, Baylor, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas.

Whaley committed to Georgia in late November, but de-committed a couple weeks later after coach Mark Richt was fired.

He gave his verbal commitment to Arkansas in early January and never looked back.

“I just feel like everyone there is really close,” Whaley said. “It’s like a brotherhood. The coaches talk about that a lot.”

An example of that is the group text message that the 2016 recruiting class shares. Each of the new Razorbacks is in the group message, and they communicate through it most days.

“We all feel like brothers already,” Whaley said. “We all feel like we’ve known each other for a long time already. As a class coming in, we’re already really close.”

With Alex Collins now in the NFL, Whaley has an opportunity to make an immediate impact in the Razorbacks’ offense.

“I’m just gonna go in and work hard and try not to let a lot of the pressure build up,” Whaley said. “If I just do what I’m supposed to and work hard, everything should fall into place.”
