Daniel Fiddick’s Waterloo Men’s Volleyball teammates fell to the Guelph Gryphons in straight sets 25 - 23, 25 - 20, 25 - 22 in the first annual school day game held at the PAC.
Over 1,000 elementary aged kids filled the seats of the PAC to take in the exciting OUA volleyball action. Unfortunately for Waterloo, their 16 service errors and 22 attacking errors proved to be costly in the loss.
In the opening set, Waterloo found themselves down 15-8 but battled all the way back to take 12 of the next 17 points to make it a 20-all game. Guelph would however take advantage of Waterloo's errors down the stretch to win the opening set 25-23. Waterloo finished the first set with 12 kills but also had nine attacking errors.
The second set again saw Guelph get out to a big lead, as the visitors jumped ahead of Waterloo 17-9. Waterloo again showed their fight to get back into the set getting to within two but the deficit was too much for the black and gold as Guelph took a stranglehold on the match with a 25-20 second set win.
The third set looked to be going the way of Waterloo as the home side took a 14-12 lead but the next six points would go to Guelph. The seesaw third set would continue that way as Waterloo tallied five straight points for the 19-18 lead. The two combatants continued to go back and forth but Guelph sealed the victory, collecting the final three points to win the set 25-22 and match 3-0.
