Bermuda Night at Shea Stadium

IslandStats.com
The second Bermuda Night of the 2008 New York Mets baseball season is set for September 22nd, planned to be bigger than the last Shea Stadium theme night in the spring.

The New York Mets will play the Chicago Cubs at 7:10pm.

Bermuda Night presents Tourism officials the opportunity to showcase Bermuda as a visitor destination to fans in the stadium and watching on television.

On September 22nd, reigning Bermuda Idol Larrita Adderley is scheduled to sing the U.S. National Anthem at Shea Stadium.

Bermuda’s Warwick Gombey Troupe will perform as part of the pre-game festivities.

The Bermuda Department of Tourism is also expected to present tens of thousands of fans with a Tourism-branded giveaway which is being promoted on the New York Mets website at: http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/schedule/promotions.jsp?c_id=nym.

Both the Mets and Cubs are in hot pursuit of playoff spots, therefore the game is expected to draw 50,000-plus fans with hundreds of thousands more watching on television.

Premier and Minister of Tourism and Transport Dr. Ewart F. Brown will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and will be interviewed during the live television broadcast. In the spring the Premier’s interview was seen by an estimated 325,000 households, according to broadcaster SportsNet New York. More visitors come to Bermuda from the New York area than anyplace else in the world.
