Bermuda’s bowlers face an uphill battle at the International Bowling Federation (IBF) World Cup in Munich after ending the opening day of competition in 30th place in the overall team standings.
A combined total of 4,239 pins leaves Bermuda with work to do to climb the leaderboard, but standout individual moments on the lanes provided plenty of encouragement.
Leading the charge was David Maycock, who produced a composed display in Group B, Pool 1. Bowling on lanes 1 to 12, Maycock established an early rhythm with an electric 257 in his opening game.
He maintained strong consistency across his series to finish the day with 2,175 pins, securing fifth place in his pool and keeping himself firmly in the qualification conversation.
In Group A, Lamar Richardson faced a stern test on lanes 13 to 24 in Pool 2. Richardson endured a competitive shift, finding his best form during game two where he rolled an impressive 244.
He closed out his day with a 2,064 total to finish tenth in his pool, consolidating Bermuda’s team aggregate alongside Maycock.
Action at the Max Munich Bowling centre continues tomorrow, with the Bermudian contingent aiming to build on individual momentum and make up ground in the team standings.
