Bermuda's Sunken Harbor Soca Kings saw their National Ball Hockey League Championship run brought to an abrupt and emphatic end in Marlton, New Jersey, falling to an 8-0 defeat against a rampant West Coast Giants side.
A four-goal masterclass from Tanner Wort and a dominant multi-point performance from Jake Sweet proved insurmountable for the island outfit, who found themselves under relentless pressure from the opening ball drop.
The Giants wasted no time seizing control, striking just 28 seconds into the contest when Wort converted from a Sweet feed to open the scoring. With the Soca Kings struggling to contain their opponents' speed, Leif Jensen doubled the advantage on the power play in the ninth minute, finishing off clever interplay from Kieran Smith and Erik Phillips to leave the Bermudian side trailing 2-0 at the first intermission.
Any hopes of a second-period fightback were snuffed out in a devastating two-minute spell. Tyler Barnes made it 3-0 in the 14th minute before Sweet turned from provider to finisher just 44 seconds later, stretching the margin to four. Wort then added his second of the afternoon late in the period to make it 5-0 and put the contest firmly beyond reach.
The Giants showed no mercy in the final frame, adding three further goals in quick succession. Sweet claimed his second of the game early in the period, before Wort struck twice in the space of six minutes to complete his personal haul and compound a punishing outing for the Soca Kings.
While it proved a chastening finale on the rink, Sunken Harbor depart Marlton having flown the flag on the national stage, their memorable tournament run ultimately halted by an irresistible attacking display.
