Bermudian international Lauren Cardwell helped the University of Toronto Varsity Blues kick off their 2026 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) regular season in ideal fashion with a clinical 2-0 victory over the McMaster Marauders.
The Blues asserted control early on the road, propelled by a sharp attacking display from second-year forward Catalina Meilleur, who struck twice to secure the points.
Meilleur wasted no time making an impact, opening the scoring after just five minutes to put Toronto on the front foot. The Calgary native then doubled the advantage with an insurance marker in the 42nd minute, taking her career tally to six goals in nine regular-season appearances.
At the other end, Cardwell and the Blues backline produced a disciplined defensive performance to completely shut down the McMaster attack.
Veterans Maggie Mullins and Kirsten D'Silva marshalled the defensive ranks with authority, allowing second-year goalkeeper Mary Yang to preserve the clean sheet. The shutout marked Yang’s eighth clean sheet in just 11 career starts for Toronto, sealing a dominant opening-day performance.
