Bermudian standout David Maycock has made his mark on the global stage this week, beginning his campaign in the main field of the prestigious World Series of Bowling (WSOB) XVII.
Competing among the world's elite in the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) circuit, Maycock opened his tournament in the Scorpion Championship, finishing the first round in 81st place.
The Scorpion oil pattern is notorious for its punishing length and high-scoring demands, and Maycock wasted no time in showing his quality. He started the opening block with a blistering 220 in his first game—his highest of the session—signaling his intent to the rest of the field.
However, the grueling nature of the WSOB began to take its toll as the lanes transitioned. Over the course of the five-game set, Maycock maintained a steady rhythm to finish with a total pinfall of 994.
While the 81st-place standing leaves him with work to do to climb into the knockout bracket, the experience of competing in the main draw of the World Series is a significant milestone for the veteran bowler. Maycock has long been a dominant force in the Caribbean and Atlantic regions, but the transition to the PBA’s "Major" environment represents the ultimate test of tactical execution and equipment management.
With several patterns still to come in the WSOB XVII schedule—including the Shark and Cheetah Championships—Maycock will be looking to build on his solid start and leverage his early momentum as he seeks to move up the leaderboards in Michigan.
