Heartbreak in Saint Lucia: Bermuda Pairs Exit Championships

IslandStats.com
The sun-soaked sands of Cul de Sac witnessed a day of high drama and ultimate disappointment for Bermuda, as both the men’s and women’s pairings saw their 2026 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Senior Beach Volleyball campaigns come to an end.

Despite flashes of the clinical form shown on the opening day, the pressure of the knockout stages proved a hurdle too far for the Bermuda teams in Saint Lucia.

In the Men’s Division, Benjamin Barnett and Sean Tucker began their morning with a fiercely contested final Pool match against Yahn Florent and Mervin Mingo of St. Kitts & Nevis. After claiming a tight opening set, the Bermudians were pulled into a physical battle at the net, eventually succumbing 2-1, with scores of 18-21, 21-14, 15-12.

Despite the loss, their earlier results were enough to secure a spot in the Quarter-Finals, where they faced a formidable Saint Vincent and the Grenadines duo, Julian Bristol and Elkreen Morton. In a match defined by narrow margins and tactical serving, Barnett and Tucker were unable to find the decisive breakthroughs needed, falling in straight sets 21-17, 21-17 to exit the competition.

There was similar frustration in the Women’s Division for Hailey Trott and Kayley Hamilton. Entering their final Pool A fixture with everything to play for, the Bermudian pair faced a clinical Dominica side featuring Joyan Pascal and Adicia Burton.

Trott and Hamilton fought valiantly in the opening exchanges, but the Dominican pair’s defensive coverage proved the difference. A 21-18, 21-13 defeat confirmed that the Bermudian duo would fail to advance to the Quarter-Finals, bringing a premature end to a campaign that had shown such promise on day one.

While the results mark a difficult conclusion to the tournament, the experience gained against the region’s elite will serve as vital preparation as the focus now shifts toward the summer’s upcoming international window.
