David Maycock has reached a career milestone after being hand-selected by the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) to compete in the main field of the upcoming World Series of Bowling XVII.
Maycock confirmed the news via social media, revealing that he is one of only nine international players to receive a prestigious exemption into the main draw. The selection follows a rigorous review of Maycock's professional resume and international rankings, allowing him to bypass the high-pressure Pre-Tournament Qualifier (PTQ).
Reflecting on the selection, Maycock expressed both relief and excitement at the prospect of competing against the world’s elite on the biggest stage in ten-pin bowling.
"I have been awarded an international PBA exemption into the main field of the PBA World Series of Bowling," Maycock confirmed. "I found out on Saturday night after putting my resume into the PBA with all my rankings. I’m glad I put it in."
The exemption represents more than just a spot in the tournament; it offers a tactical advantage as Maycock prepares to face a grueling schedule of "animal" oil patterns that define the World Series.
"I’m in the main field, so that’s less pressure on me," Maycock noted. "We’ve got a couple of different patterns we’ve got to attack—the Cheetah, Scorpion, Chameleon, and Shark. If we get to the World Championships, I think it’s the Anthony Pattern."
The World Series of Bowling is renowned as one of the most physically and mentally demanding events on the professional calendar, requiring players to master drastically different lane conditions over several days of competition. For Maycock, the goal is to turn this opportunity into a deep championship run.
"I just have to go there, have my mind focused, and hopefully make a run at one of these animal patterns. Hopefully, we can make a run somewhere."
Maycock’s selection underscores his standing as one of the premier bowlers in the region, and his participation in the XVII edition of the World Series will be closely watched by the Bermudian sporting community as he takes on the best in the business.
