The Second Spring Seniors Bowling League season delivered a major upset at Warwick Lanes on Wednesday night, as fourth-placed Blue Angels defeated the league leaders, Drifters, with a decisive 3-1 victory.
The loss halts the momentum of the table-topping Drifters and opens up the competition at the summit of the seniors league standings.
The drama was compounded by the fact that the second-placed New Comers were inactive this week, receiving a bye. This means the New Comers lost the opportunity to capitalise fully on the Drifters’ unexpected defeat, though they remain firmly in contention.
The Pinsplitters, currently sitting in third, seized their opportunity. They secured a solid 3-1 win over seventh-placed Last Pins, tightening their grip on a podium spot and reducing the gap to the leaders.
In the final contested match, fifth-placed Star Lites went down 3-1 to the Islanders, who continue to push up the table with a strong performance.
The results ensure the top four places remain tightly contested as the Second Spring Seniors Bowling League season heads into its next crucial week of action.
