The No. 18 ranked University of Wisconsin Badgers Men's Hockey team delivered a dominant display on Thursday night, posting a commanding 6-0 exhibition shutout victory against the U.S. Under-18 Team at the Kohl Center.
Freshman forward Blake Montgomery was amongst the scorers, highlighting a night where Wisconsin’s young talent shone brightly for the home crowd.
The Badgers, improving their record to 2-0-0 on the season, wasted no time taking control of the game. Freshman forward Bruno Idžan opened the scoring just over two minutes into the first period (2:21).
Junior forward Quinn Finley followed swiftly, lighting the lamp at 3:42 into the frame before tallying again on the power play just minutes later to make the score 3-0.
The only goal of the second period came from freshman forward Vasily Zelenov (6:50), maintaining Wisconsin’s unassailable lead.
The third period saw Montgomery get in on the action. The freshman forward netted his goal just 2:57 into the final frame to extend the Badgers’ lead to 5-0.
Idžan then capped off the scoring with his second goal of the night at 18:07, sealing the 6-0 rout.
The shutout was secured by a combined effort in the net, with Eli Pulver making 15 saves and Anton Castro adding two saves as the U.S. Under-18 Team were kept scoreless despite registering 17 shots on goal. The result marks the Badgers' second shutout victory in their first three games of the season.
