Bermuda’s Men’s National Field Hockey team faced a swift return to the pitch as they took on Jamaica in their fourth match of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games Qualifying Tournament in Mexico. Following their defeat to Venezuela, Bermuda were eager to secure a positive result.
Jamaica drew first blood in the 13th minute when Rasheed Johnston found the back of the net with a well-taken field goal. Bermuda battled to find an equaliser, but just one minute before the half-time break, Jamaica doubled their lead from a penalty corner, with Phillip Dawson flicking the ball past the Bermuda goalkeeper.
The second half saw both teams locked in a tight contest. Bermuda pushed forward in search of a way back into the game, but the Jamaican goalkeeper stood firm, denying their efforts. Similarly, Justin Dill in the Bermuda goal was called into action on several occasions, keeping Jamaica from extending their lead further.
Ultimately, despite a determined effort in the second half, Bermuda were unable to breach the Jamaican defence, and Jamaica picked up a valuable 2-0 victory.
This third consecutive defeat will be a setback for Bermuda’s hopes of advancing in the CAC Games Qualifying Tournament. They will need to quickly analyse their performance and find a way to bounce back in their remaining matches.
