The Bermuda Volleyball Association (BVA) has officially launched a search for a new head coach to lead the senior Women's Volleyball team, following the departure of Gary LeBlanc. The recruitment notice was posted across social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, with applications closing on January 31.
This comes on the heels of a remarkable journey for the Women's programme, highlighted by their silver medal achievement at the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Championships in Antigua. This marked their first international outing since the onset of the Covid pandemic, showcasing the team's resilience and talent.
Under the guidance of interim head coach Shaela Rae and assistant Kayla Grant, the senior team delivered a commendable performance, sparking optimism for the future. Brandon Sousa, co-president of the BVA, expressed his belief in the abundance of coaching talent on the island, suggesting there are potential candidates already in place to step into the role.
"Gary has been an instrumental coach for several years; however, with his growing family, he is unable to continue in the position," noted Sousa. "We are actively seeking a coach who can carry this momentum forward. While we have individuals in mind, we invite all interested candidates to apply. We also recognize the certified coaches already on island who have contributed significantly to the women's team."
Looking ahead, Sousa emphasized the exciting prospects that await the next head coach. "It's a thrilling opportunity for whoever steps up to the plate. We are eager to see the women's team advance and establish Bermuda's reputation in indoor volleyball not just in the Caribbean, but potentially on a global scale as well. We're optimistic about some promising, young candidates showing interest in this coaching opportunity."
