The Mount Saint Agnes Academy gym was electric with anticipation as the Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Boys Volleyball tournament reached its climax. Saltus Grammar School and Somersfield Academy, two titans of the court, clashed in a championship showdown that would leave fans on the edge of their seats.
Somersfield, a squad known for their tenacity, came out firing on all cylinders, building a commanding five-point lead in the first set. But Saltus, with their backs against the wall, summoned a surge of energy, clawing their way back point by point. The crowd roared as Saltus finally snatched the first set 27-25 in a nail-biting finish.
Undeterred, Somersfield continued to battle in the second set, but Saltus had found their rhythm. With powerful spikes and acrobatic digs, they seized control of the match, ultimately securing the championship with a 25-20 victory.
The road to the finals was paved with drama. Saltus narrowly escaped an upset in the Semi-Finals against a formidable Warwick Academy Blue team. Warwick led for most of the match, but Saltus, displaying their championship mettle, staged a late rally to win 25-23. Somersfield, on the other hand, cruised to a 25-18 victory over Warwick Academy White in their semi-final matchup.
Saltus' undefeated run to the championship showcased their resilience, teamwork, and exceptional skill. They emerged as worthy champions, etching their names in Bermuda's middle school volleyball history.
