Maha Clarke and her Queens University of Charlotte Field Hockey teammates picked up a 3-2 win over Converse College in what was the final home game of the season. Seniors Kayleigh Lawrence and Abby Carls were honored prior to the start of the game for their contributions in helping to build the foundation of the Queens Field Hockey program.
Lawrence would be the first to score today after receiving a cross from Mazvita Mtisi in the 16th minute of action. However, Converse College soon evened things up when Flore Samsi rebounded a shot to put the ball in the back of the cage in the 21st. The 1-1 score then held until the halftime break.
Queens' next pair of goals would come in the 51st and 54th putting the home team on top, 3-1. Mtisi scored the first after rebounding a saved shot, and Hanna Nechay scored the second after taking a touch to pull Converse's keeper out of the net.
Converse would pull within one in the 62nd when Marina Montes-Nino scored on a breakaway, but that would be as close as they would get to Queens University before time expired.
Queens outshot Converse, 12-11, putting seven shots on goal. Miranda Childers totaled six saves in the cage.
