Maha Clarke and her Queens University of Charlotte Field Hockey teammates avenged their early season loss to Newberry College defeating them 3-1, at Bessant Field.
Queens jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the game when Mazvita Mtisi found Jocelyn Lawrence racing up the field and fed her the ball for a goal scored right in front of the net. Newberry would answer about 10 minutes late when Olivia Fraunfelter broke away from Queens' defense to beat Miranda Childers in the cage for a goal. The pair of goals would be the only ones scored in the opening period of regulation.
In the second half, Queens pulled ahead, 2-1, when Lawrence found her second goal of the day after receiving a pass from Sta'sha Waterfield. Korey Fine then scored Queens’ insurance goal in the 63rd minute after collecting a pass from Kayleigh Lawrence.
Queens outshot Newberry, 17-9, putting six shots on goal to Newberry's four. Queens also won 16 penalty corners to Newberry's five. Childers picked up her fourth win of the season after tallying three saves.
