Alvernia University's Thanks Zagsports for Trip

IslandStats.com
Alvernia University's Field Hockey team capped off one of its best years in program history by traveling to Bermuda during the winter break to play a pair of games internationally.

The trip, organized by Zagsports, is a one in four year international playing tour that Field Hockey conducts over the semester break. This year's travels mark the third time the Alvernia Field Hockey team has ventured abroad.

"The trip is held after our regular season, and prior to our short spring season, so it's more of a team bonding, and educational tour for the team," noted head coach Laura Gingrich. "We schedule it during our winter break, so the students do not miss classes, and it gets us out of the cold temperatures."

During the 6 day, 5 night stay at Grotto Bay Resort, the Crusaders played 2 games - one versus the Bermudian Federation Team and another against the Bermudian National Team.

The Crusaders captured a 4-1 victory over the Bermudian Federation Team before facing the Bermudian National Team and playing them to a 1-1 draw. Both games were held at the state of the art Bermuda National Sports Centre.

Outside of the field hockey matchups, the team received lessons in the national sport of Cricket and visited the Bermudian National Aquarium and Zoo. In addition, the Crusaders toured the underground/water caves and the Naval Dockyards, which are the venue of the 2017 Americas Cup. They also explored the trails and coves at Horseshoe Bay while enjoying the beaches and island food.

"Bermuda is a beautiful place to visit that's reasonably priced with a short flight, with friendly people," said Gingrich. "Grotto Bay Resort is gorgeous, the playing venue is state of the art, and the weather hovering around 70-72 degrees is much better than in PA, in January. This is our third visit, so it is a very special place, and Zagsports does a terrific job with the organization of the trip. Can't wait to go back in 4 years!"
