Countdown to 2016 World Rugby Classic

IslandStats.com
The countdown to the 2016 edition of the World Rugby Classic already has already begun for the tournament which runs from the November 6th to the 12th.

Contacts are being made to bring in some of the games 'greatest players and already Wales' record Try scorer, Shane Williams is booked to travel.

Williams scored 300 points for Wales and the Lions from 2000 to 2013 with 87 caps for Wales and 4 for the Lions on three different tours. He was the IRB (World Rugby) Player of the Year in 2008.

He played his club rugby for Neath (1998-2003) scoring 344 points, Ospreys (2003-2012) scoring 293 points and Mitsubishi Dynaboars Japan (2012-2001) scoring 10 points.

He was first capped for Wales in 2000 with his 87th cap coming in 2011 scoring a total of 58 tries. He is Wales' record try scorer in both the Six Nations and Rugby World Cups.

He is third on the international list of leading Try scorers.

Gordon D'Arcy, Brian O'Driscoll's partner in the center for Ireland with 87 caps, will join Williams in the Classic Lions backline

The Classic All Blacks are keen to bring a much better team to this year's Classic having lost to the Classic Lions in the Final with a team bereft of All Black players.

Any Haden has already started his selection process with recently retired locks Brad Thorn (59 caps) and Ali Williams (77 caps), along with hooker Kevin Mealamu (132 caps) expected to be part of this year's Classic All Black squad.

The battle of the locks could be one of the features of this year's Classic as South African locks Victor Matfield (149 caps) and Bakkies Botha (97caps) have asked to be included in the Classic Spingboks squad.
