Justin Donawa and his Dartmouth Men’s Soccer teammates battled to take its first win of the season over Hartford in overtime.
After last season’s 1-0 loss to Hartford, the road team was seeking redemption. Possessions were aggressive back and forth, with Dartmouth controlling a lot of tempo and outshooting the home team 15-5.
While there were chances to shoot, the ball just couldn’t seem to find the back of the net in the first 90 minutes of play, resulting in overtime.
The 1-0 win was reached only 49 seconds after the end of regulation. Freshman defender Matt Ranieri scored his first collegiate goal, heading a ball straight into the net, juniors Donawa and Eduvie Ikoba were both on the assist.

"We were pleased with our approach to the start of the game," head coach Jason O'Keefe said after the contest. "We went into half even or ahead for the seventh-straight game, and that's a goal of ours in every match.
We had some costly turnovers to start the second half, which put us under, and a team like WF will punish you.We will learn from this game and get better for Longwood Saturday night at 7pm."
Six of the starting 11 for the Mountaineers that started were freshmen, while Perinchief started in his first-career contest for Appalachian State.
