CFU Acknowledge Bermuda in XLII Ordinary Congress

The XLII Ordinary Congress of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) convened at Le Mèridien Ètoile in Paris.

CFU President Randolph Harris reported to the membership which includes Bermuda, that the organization has reorganized and recalibrated at the level of administration and operations so that the business of football and advocating for the 31 Member Associations is the only focus.

“I can say today without any fear of contradiction that our Caribbean Football Union stands tall and proud—an organization characterized by accountability and transparency, and one that is focused on the development of every member no matter the size or world ranking,” President Harris said.

The CFU’s highest legislative body approved the 2018 Audited Financial Statements, the 2020 Budget, the Minutes of the XLI Ordinary Congress and the 2018-2019 Executive Committee Report.

The Congress, an electoral meeting, elected Rignaal Francisca (Curacao) First Vice President. Cheney Joseph (Grenada) was the other candidate.

President Harris acknowledged the headline-making members, including Jamaica whose Reggae Girlz are contesting the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup which opens here on Friday, and Haiti’s U17 Men’s Team, which advanced to the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil.

The list also included CONCACAF Gold Cup debutantes Bermuda and Guyana, as well as Cuba, Curacao, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique and Trinidad and Tobago, the other CFU teams participating in the Gold Cup.

The Bahamas Football Association, which in April celebrated 50 years, also received special mention.

The CFU president said the agenda for the next year would include a program for referees from the region, which will include recruitment and training, as well as women’s and leadership initiatives.
