The Bermuda Sanshou Association (BSA) has been forced to withdraw from the 14th World Wushu Championships to be held in Kazan, Russia from September 26 – October 4th.
There are a number of contributing factors for the withdrawal with the main reason being “a very expensive venture with very little resource for funding.”
The visa application process is very involved and required going to London driving up costs even more. The Bermuda Team was dealt the initial blow when appointed Team Captain Reyel Bowen had to withdraw due to work commitments.
Athletes Sentwali Woolridge and Krista Dyer were hoping to compete in the biggest event on the Wushu calendar but news from government indicating that there are no funds available to assist with the costs dashed any hopes of being able to make the trip.
